Johnny F. Bowen Sr. died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. He was born in San Francisco on Sept. 20, 1951. He was a resident of Milpitas for 45 years.

Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife Catherine of 30 years; daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Shawn Baxter; grandchildren Jessica, Mathew and Michael; step-son Mark Howard; son Johnny F. Bowen Jr. and granddaughter Kalei. He also leaves behind his brother Alfred Bowen Sr., sister Connie Lais and Alva Davis, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred C. Bowen, his mother Alva S. Bowen and sister Mione Bowen.

Mr. Bowen was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He became a quadriplegic in April 1976. He went on to get his bachelor's degree in psychology. He was a genius with computers and built his own BBS. He loved his family and friends, the San Francisco 49ers and Giants, and Jeff Gordon.

Mr. Bowen's ashes will be scattered for family only on Feb. 28. A memorial service for family and friends will be held Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. at the VA Medical Center, 3801 Miranda Ave. in Palo Alto, Building 100 in the Chapel.
